You are invited to join us Saturday May 11  for our Guests and Members observing night at our observatory. Weather permitting, we will have several telescopes set up for you to enjoy the bright stars of the winter sky.  Some of our members will have telescope outside for viewing.  You will also have an opportunity to visit the telescope in our observatory dome. When approaching a telescope ask the owner if they are willing to share the views.

NOTE:  Due to recent heavy rains the MOSTLY PAVED ROADS   route link below may be a better choice for travel.

The rural evening temperatures are often cooler than in town. So, a light jacket may be useful.  Warmer weather also has invigorated our insect “friends”.    Please apply insect repellents away from the telescope areas.  Also, it is not recommended to lay on the ground even with a blanket.  We have chairs in the classroom, or you can bring your own lawn chairs.

Tonight our guests will have an opportunity to enjoy viewing the 4 day old waxing crescent moon in the constellation of Gemini.   The moon is a major goal for numerous spacecraft missions.  The USA, China, India and even a private company have recently launched or plan to launch missions to the moon.  The Spring Sky has a number of familiar constellations you will want to learn.  Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Ursa Major ( Big Dipper ) and others.  Numerous galaxies are also visible in our telescopes.

PLEASE NOTE: If adverse weather is nearby, we may cancel or close earlier.

PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR CHANGES DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

Our observing ground gates will open at 7:45 PM. Guests are asked to park on the lot at the large building next to our observing field.  Please try to arrive before 8:30 PM and drive carefully if arriving after dark.
