Members  Observing Night

Friday Oct  4, 2024   Gates Open at 6:30 PM

See link to a direction map below

We try to reserve Observatory nights nearest the New Moon for our members.  This allows our members to work on their various observing projects, do some astrophotography, share ideas and help each other with their goals. You can bring along family or a friend if they want to observe with you.  The gates will open at 6:30 PM.     The rural evening temperatures are often cooler than in town. Depending on the evening temperatures a light jacket may be useful.  A snack and something to drink makes the evening pass well.  We have chairs in the classroom, or you can bring your own lawn chairs.

NOTE: Many of our members are spending this weekend at the Okie-Tex star party.  We encourage those still in town to come help out at our members night.

Autumn evenings bring us earlier sunsets and cooler temperatures.   The summer constellations are still visible in the western half of the sky while the autumn constellations are rising in the east.  Venus is our bright evening "star" in the west.  A thin waxing crescent moon lies nearby.  Saturn is rising in the SE and Jupiter rises in the NE about 10:40 PM.   October is also noted for a couple of meteor showers so be on the look out for a few "shooting stars'"

PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR CHANGES DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS    If the Friday session is cancelled due to weather, we will try again on Saturday evening.
