Members may choose how they want to participate in observing on this night.

You may choose to just come observe a few hours at your leisure.

Several of our members will choose to participate in the Messier Marathon.

This is a quest to Observe and Log as many of the 110 Messier Objects as they can in a single night.

The club will provide drinks for the evening.  You will need to bring your own snacks to keep your energy up and perhaps to share with a friend.

NOTE: Bring along extra layers for warmth.  In past years we have needed coats and gloves in the hours after midnight.

PLEASE USE THE CONTACT TAB on the website to LET US KNOW IF YOU INTEND TO STAY  for the extended Messier Quest.

You can find Marathon details - Log Sheets and Charts at

We try to reserve Observatory nights nearest the New Moon for our members.  This allows our members to work on their various observing projects, do some astrophotography, share ideas and help each other with their goals. You can bring along family or a friend if they want to observe with you.   The early Spring sky has many attractions however our rural hilltop site can experience a brisk breeze .  A warm jacket or coat, Cap and Gloves will help you to enjoy your evening under the stars. Some people even like to bring a blanket to wrap up in as they sit in a chair.   Our classroom will be moderately heated for you to step in and warm up a bit. Its a good idea to bring a warm drink and snack along. We have chairs in the classroom, or you can bring your own chairs.

PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR CHANGES DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

Event may be cancelled for clouds or our other weather related hazards.   Check our website before heading out.

If the Friday session is cancelled due to weather, we will try again on Saturday evening.

As a member you may bring family members or a friend that wants to observe with you but not large groups.

Please keep minor family members within your observing area with a supervising adult.

To develop your observing skills, you may want to consider trying to earn one of the over 40 well designed observing certificates from the Astronomical League. Check out some of their Observing Programs
