Case Community Center 1050 W Wekiwa Rd, Sand Springs,
Come help us celebrate International Astronomy Day at the Sand Springs Case Community Center
1050 W Wekiwa Rd, Sand Springs
The Astronomy Club of Tulsa will be setting up telescopes from 7:30 to 10:30 PM to let you enjoy several of the wonders of the night sky.
The first quarter moon will be just 1.5 degrees for the planet Mars near the Beehive star cluster in the constellation of Cancer. Guests will also enjoy viewing Jupiter with its four brightest moons and cloud band strips. The zodiac constellations of Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo and Virgo will all be on display along with the Big Dipper in the NE sky. With a bit of luck we may see a few meteors from the Eta Aquarid shower. They originate from debris streaming along the orbit of the famous Comet Halley which will make it return to evening skies in January 2062
Feel free to bring along a lawn chair and enjoy the evening. If you have your own binoculars or telescope you ae welcome to bring them as well.
Telescope viewing is subject to weather cancellation due to clouds or severe weather forecasts
